Each
lab has a blank lab report that can be printed by the student,
complete with data table and graphing area if needed.
The
students have a comprehensive, step by step procedure that can
be viewed while doing the lab. Pictures and descriptions of lab
equipment are included in the directions.
The
students have a calculation tutorial that shows the proper
procedure to follow to complete the lab report. Equations are
given.
The
labs can be performed as many times as required and the student
chooses when he/she believes his/her data and answers are
correct before sending them to be filed.
Errors
in procedure have been anticipated and the student soon learns
when improper actions are executed. Errors can range from simple
goofs to catastrophic lab failures. Explanations are given when
fatal errors occur. Spilling materials, breaking lab equipment,
improper use of devices and faulty measurements are possible.
After
a successful lab many students return to see how many ways they
can "mess-up" the lab by purposely committing errors,
thus experiencing proper and improper procedures.
Tutorials
covering broad areas such as 'Acids & Bases', 'Gas Laws',
etc. are available.
Drill
and practice programs are available to hone skills in
identifying ion name/formula/charge, significant figures, metric
system, making compounds/formulas, balancing equations and many
others.
Interactive
graphic programs are available to improve understanding of
topics such as DNA structure, adaptation, plant/animal
cells,mitosis and many others.
Games,
Bingo and crosswords are also available to improve student
interest.
Teachers
have access to a databank that stores all data taken during the
lab along with answers to any calculated values. Each student
has a unique set of parameters and outcome values. The records
show day and time of access.
Teachers
may examine and print student data based on an individual,
class, date or lab.
Teachers
can call for a comprehensive calculation report that uses the
data taken by an individual student and shows how the answers
should have been generated, including graphs. These are viewable
but not printable.
Teachers
can view an overall summary of class or lab type activity.
