Efile
The heart of our interactive labs is that the
student has a unique set of data to work with and a unique set of
outcome results. It is traditional that the student's work and answers
be done on a printed data sheet and handed in to the instructor. But
there are many cases where the student can not physically make contact
with the instructor and so difficulties arise. To improve the
performance of these students a new system has been developed, Efile. Efile allows the
student to enter a special section where they can type in their answers
and work, just as found on the printed data sheet, and send them to a
datafile for the instructor to view. In the labs that require a graph,
a special interactive interface has been developed that allows the
student to actually construct a graph and send it along with their
answers and work. The Efile student filing section is not within the lab itself but
can be entered from the Eduweblabs home page. Most students do
not finish their calculations during their stay in the lab, but finish
afterwards, especially if a graph is involved. When their calculations
are done they can now enter Efile and simply copy their data to the form to send off. As
with the standard lab, the student MUST file their lab
data from within the lab itself by using the blue "Special" button.
The teacher can now enter our Efile section (from the Teacher Entry area), and view any
students answers, work and graph (if required). Only those
students that have gone through the Efile procedure can be viewed.
All but a couple of eduweblabs can be handled with Efile. We do not
expect that Efile will replace the standard method of data transfer
between student and instructor, but it will make it possible to reach a
larger range of students.
